Sojourn Community Church - 8/2/2015

This liturgy comes from the Sunday morning service on August 2, 2015 at Sojourn Community Church in Louisville, Kentucky. | Pastor of Worship & Arts - Mike Cosper

Prelude: Abide

Call to Worship:

Welcome to Sojourn! We’re glad you’ve decided to join us as we gather as a church family. Let’s hear the Psalmist as he reminds us that though life wars against us at times, we are encouraged to remember and respond to the God of our salvation.

But may all who seek the Lord rejoice and be glad in Him; May those who love His salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord.” - from Psalm 40:16

One of the ways that we encourage and remind each other of the greatness of God is by singing together. So let’s sing out

Song: Praise to the Lord/I Sing the Mighty Power of God

Confession

When we gather to praise God, we remember who God is and his holiness. In light of God’s holiness, we also remember that we are people who have preferred our wills to his. Knowing God is faithful to renew and forgive as we confess, let’s pray this prayer of confession together:

“Eternal and merciful God, you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding, and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake;

Yet we have strayed from your way; we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed.

We remember your grace as we confess our sins, and give you thanks that you forgive us yet again.”

-Adapted from the Worship Sourcebook

Let’s ask God to direct our eyes and hearts towards him as we continue to sing.

Song: Be Thou My Vision/Abide With Me

Assurance:

Hear the good news:

Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. -Micah 7:18

Giving:

God has given us his riches at Christ’s expense. In gratitude, we give a portion of our income to God’s mission.

Let’s pray this together:

Lord, help us to be like you, freely giving so others will share in

Your extravagant gift of eternal life.

If you’re not a Christian, we’re not asking for your money. This service is our gift to you. For those who are Christians, the giving baskets will go around as we continue to sing.

Song: Cling to the Crucified/Glories of Calvary

Peace

As God has given us peace through Christ,

so let us pass the peace of Christ to each other.

Sermon/Communion:

Song: The Blood Will Never Lose It’s Power/Hallelujah, What A Savior

Song: Where Your Praise Never Ends/Amazing Grace

Benediction

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. – Acts 20:32
